Sew For Hope is a program of SGI which shares the hope and love of Christ through multi-level sewing classes in a supportive and friendship-based environment to encourage, empower and seek employment for refugee women in middle Tennessee.

Part-time Employment Specialist Job Summary – The vibrant and growing ministry of Sew for Hope seeks an energetic and relational Christian female to find, build and deepen our relationships with employers in the community to increase job opportunities and to help prepare our students for employment in Nashville. The successful candidate will be responsible to raise support as an SGI team member, will report to the Program Manager, and will work 15-18 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

Employer Relations (75%)

  • Visit present employers to deepen relationships, encourage, and learn how to better prepare our students for employment
  • Brainstorm with Program Manager to identify new potential opportunities for student employment, create regular schedule for meetings, and execute on an outreach strategy
  • Make and maintain connections within the Nashville community for future employment opportunities and to raise awareness of the mission of Sew for Hope
  • Recruit volunteers and donations as appropriate when networking for job opportunities

Student Job Readiness (25%)

  • Train and help students to write and submit resumes
  • Help train/prepare students for interviews
  • Train students for employment and job retention
  • Provide transportation to interviews when needed

Other Responsibilities

  • Attend monthly SGI staff meeting
  • Record employer meeting notes with recommendations for Program Manager
  • Other responsibilities assigned by Program Manager to promote employment

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of one-year cross-cultural experience with refugees, preferably with Muslims
  • Minimum of two years experience in HR, jobs training, hiring, business or other relevant field
  • Have a love for Jesus and an active Christian faith
  • Agree with, support and be able to clearly communicate the mission of SGI and Sew for Hope
  • Ability to work both cooperatively on a team and on your own with enjoyment in being out in the community meeting and networking
  • Demonstrated organizational, prioritization and follow-through skills
  • Punctuality is important, along with flexibility
  • Compassion and understanding for people from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience and ability to communicate well with people with different levels of language, education and position
  • Must have a personal vehicle, valid TN Driver’s license and be able to pass a background check
  • Basic computer literacy, ability to make and use spreadsheets and databases
  • Experience with sewing is preferred

Compensation and Benefits

  • There will be an agreed-upon salary that will be raised by you upon being hired. Onboarding, training and support for raising support will be provided by the Program Manager and other SGI staff
  • No health insurance benefits to be provided
