Servant Group International is a Christian nonprofit which strives to encourage and equip the body of Christ to love and serve our Middle Eastern neighbors. Our local programs provide a supportive and friendship-based environment to serve refugees and immigrants in Middle Tennessee.

Part-time or Full-Time Local Programs Assistant Job Summary – The ministry of Servant Group International seeks an energetic and relational Christian female to assist in running local women’s English programs, foster volunteer-student friendships outside of class, organize related events, and serve in other Servant Group related activities and events. The successful candidate will be responsible to raise support as an SGI team member, will report to the Local Programs Coordinator, and will work either 15-18 hours as a part time member or up to 40 as a full time member.

Responsibilities:

English Classes (50%)

  • Help with set up and tear down of English classes each class time
  • Help with administrative tasks like keeping attendance, registration and testing of new students, and classroom supplies management
  • Fill missing spots for absent volunteers in teaching English or helping with childcare as needed
  • Find new resources to help English students with learning or other needs

Relationship Development (50%)

  • Build relationships with students and welcome volunteers into those relationships
  • Contact students who have missed classes to find out their needs
  • Coordinate events for students and/or volunteers as needed

Other Responsibilities

  • Attend monthly SGI staff meeting
  • Other responsibilities assigned by Local Programs Coordinator to promote friendships and wholeness among students and volunteers

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of one-year cross-cultural experience with refugees, preferably with Muslims
  • Have a love for Jesus and an active Christian faith
  • Agree with, support and be able to clearly communicate the mission of SGI
  • Ability to work both cooperatively on a team and on your own with enjoyment in being with international people and in their homes
  • Demonstrated organizational, prioritization and follow-through skills
  • Punctuality is important, along with flexibility
  • Compassion and understanding for people from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience and ability to communicate well with people with different levels of language, education and position
  • Must have a personal vehicle, valid TN Driver’s license and be able to pass a background check
  • Basic computer literacy, ability to make and use spreadsheets and databases
  • Experience with English Language Instruction is preferred

Compensation and Benefits

  • There will be an agreed-upon salary that will be raised by you upon being hired. Onboarding, training and support for raising support will be provided by the Program Manager and other SGI staff
  • No health insurance benefits to be provided
