An opportunity to serve with SGI in Kurdistan.

Background:

Since 2014, when ISIS first encroached on Iraqi Kurdistan, Servant Group has been working with the refugees who bear the burden of this conflict.  Initially we helped to start a school in a refugee camp near Dohuk, followed by another school in the recently liberated Sinjar area.  As ISIS continues to be pushed back, it is clear that many years of healing and rebuilding lie before the people of Iraq and Syria.

To continue to stand with our friends in the task ahead, our staff and national partners in Kurdistan have founded a new NGO called Operation Love Mercy (OLM).  OLM, in close partnership with SGI, will build upon the work that’s been started by taking on new projects in liberated areas.  To help do that on a growing scale, we need an additional Project Manager to join the team on the field.

Where:

You’ll be based in Erbil, the capital city of Iraqi Kurdistan.

When:

Minimum 1-year commitment, as soon as you’re ready to start.

Duties:

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for seeking out and proposing potential new OLM projects, as well as directing the execution of approved OLM projects.  You’ll be joining a team with three other OLM members, along with local support staff who help with translating, logistics, etc.  A significant part of your time will be spent out in the field (liberated towns and villages toward Mosul), surveying needs and opportunities or overseeing active projects.  The goal is for OLM to identify and carry out several new projects in 2017.

Accommodation:

We will help you locate a suitable house or apartment in a good area.  All of our team members live within walking distance of grocery stores, restaurants, and other shops.  Transportation around town is typically via taxis, which are numerous and inexpensive.

Finances:

Support-raising will be required for this position.  We can walk you through that process.
