Serve in Kazakhstan

Let’s start a new adventure together! We’ve just begun partnering with Tien Shan Education Center in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and are looking for adventurous men and women willing to go a little farther off the beaten path.

Kazakhstan is the largest country in Central Asia and Almaty is its most populous city, nestled at the foot of the magnificent Tien Shan mountains.  The more we learn about the rich culture and history of the Kazakh people, the more excited we are to draw others into this journey.  Kazakhs love to be outdoors, walking and enjoying the breathtaking mountain views.  Almaty is a large city, replete with universities, opera houses, art galleries and even an Olympic level ski jump!  There is much to see and do.  The streets are lined with trees offering shade to the many pedestrians bustling about their daily business.

School Life

Tien Shan is a well-established truth-seeking teaching center with students from all around the world. There are Korean, American, Russian, Ukrainian, and Afghan students and staff with more added every year. The administration provides a positive work environment with clear job descriptions and direction. There is truly a sense of serving the students and their families as well as fellow teachers. Every person we met not only wanted to be there but was excited to welcome new folks to serve alongside them. Tien Shan is a place where you can learn and grow while being part of a supportive and like-minded community. The staff needs change every year but there are usually both classroom and non-classroom positions available. A teaching degree or background is not required, just a bachelor’s degree and a willingness to learn. Teachers are encouraged to have deep conversations with their students and develop relationships with their families as well. The minimum term of service is one full academic year,  starting in August and ending in July. Housing and transportation are coordinated by Tien Shan for the first year, with the possibility of extending if needed.  The school offers some limited financial assistance.  Servant Group will help you raise additional funds for airfare, insurance, living expenses, etc.  You’ll also have the opportunity to enroll in language classes (Russian or Kazakh) if desired. Fill out the interest form below and we’ll be glad to help you learn more about serving in the land of the yurt, the golden eagle, and the endless steppe.
